super deformity

The other night, whilst wandering through one of the buildings in Yokohama station looking for a place to have a drink with a friend, I stumbled upon a rather bizarre display of Japanese craftsmanship. I didn't have time to get the details, but apparently there's some kind of SD convention going on at the moment. because there was a huge showcase on display, littered with super-deformed dolls of famous Japanese people. The detail on these things was pretty high; even I had no problem picking out several TV celebrities and comedians after just a quick glance. I snapped a couple of pics and moved on, but in hindsight, I kind of wish I would've stuck around to investigate further, because I didn't get to check out very many of them. And I still have no idea why any of this stuff is on display in the first place. :)

Of the ones I saw, this is my favorite:

I mean, how can you top that? Not only is she wearing a schoolgirl outfit, but she's got a machinegun, too. Now all she needs is a twin sister for the golden triad to be complete.

A couple of other random celebs:

Only in Japan...

Omigosh! Those dolls are too creepy, yet strangely fascinating! Now I know why I have a fear of dolls!

They should make one of all the comedians who comment on Ainori... I could imagine the caricatures they could do for those 3 jokers.

oh, John. We do have a mutual friend in Jason Wilson. He says hello. "Supposedly" he is going to come stay at my place once I move back to Japan early next year. If so, I propose a nomikai. Ill keep you posted.

Hey, I know Jason. He has more NES games than anyone else on the planet. Tell him I said hello. :)

Nomikais are always good. We have one every week, so if you're ever visiting Tokyo, be sure to let me know in advance so I can drop you the t0p s3cr3t location info.

In Russia we have kind of dolls called "matrechka". You can see the photo one of this dolls here - http://www.rosizo.ru/life/dossier/press/img/putin-matreshka1.jpg. It's russian president, Vladimir Putin. You can buy any "president" - from George Bush to Stalin.
